Services & facilities
The University of Melbourne together with the Melbourne Graduate School of Science, offers a comprehensive range of academic enrichment
services to graduate students. These services are designed to ensure a quality academic experience.
Research facilities are also amongst the best in Australia as the Melbourne Graduate School of Science is located in one of Australia's most
research-intensive areas known as 'the Parkville Precinct'. The Parkville Precinct is home to major centres of medical and bio-scientific research, clinical practice, education, pharmaceutical production
and biotechnology application investigation.
Graduate Lounge & Syndicate Rooms
A spacious student lounge area with kitchenette and two syndicate rooms are provided on level 1 of
the Alan Gilbert Building for all Science graduate students.
Graduate Computer Lab
A 25 seat PC computer lab (Room 111) with wireless access is available to students who wish to use their own laptop.
Melbourne School of Graduate Research
The Melbourne School of Graduate Research offers an extensive range of services designed exclusively for graduate research
students. It provides support and facilities aimed at enriching the graduate academic experience.
Graduate Student Association (GSA)
The University of Graduate Student Association (GSA) represents the interests of all postgraduate students at
the University. It focuses on the quality of student academic experience and the development of a community of enquiring
scholars.
GSA provides numerous services which include; education advice, publications, workshops, interdisciplinary seminars and conferences
and assistance with postgraduate journals and presentations.
Academic Skills Unit
The Academic Skills Unit provides advice and instruction on academic and language skills. A broad range of academic skills are
covered including: researching and writing, exam preparation and oral presentation. In addition to these services many faculties offer
programs to assist graduate students with their learning needs.
Transition & orientation
A dedicated transition and orientation team is also accessible to graduate students. This team provides advice, information and
referral to relevant services and resources to make the transition to graduate study as smooth as possible.
International Student Services (ISS)
International Student Services (ISS) provide advice and support to all international students throughout the entire 'Cycle of Support'.
Phases of this cycle include; pre-departure, on arrival, on going and return home.
Careers & employment
The University of Melbourne Careers and employment unit offers a number of services and programs that aim to maximise the career prospects
of graduate students. The mission of this unit is to 'enhance the employability of students, assist with career development and maximise
employment opportunities.'
