Master of Science
The Master of Science has been designed to give you options in advanced research training, specialised coursework studies and professional skills development to enhance your readiness for the employment market or a research career.
The Master of Science offers a pathway into PhD studies. You will engage in a significant research project and discipline-specific and workplace-focused coursework.
Over 200 Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) are available for Australian and New Zealand citizens and Permanent Resident visa holders undertaking this degree. Full-time students enrolled in this program are also eligible to apply for Youth Allowance, Austudy or Abstudy. Refer to the financial support web page for more information.
Students who complete the Master of Science with a H1 (80%) average across their entire course of study (200 credit points), will be eligible to be awarded the Master of Science with Distinction.

Some Master of Science streams require, as part of the application process, you to identify a supervisor who can potentially supervise the research project component of your course.
Master of Science streams that require you to identify a potential supervisor are; Biomedical and Health Sciences, Botany, Earth Sciences, Genetics, Geography, Physics, Vision Sciences and Zoology.

A pathway to PhD studies
Students accepted into the Master of Science in these eight streams - Botany, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Genetics, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, Vision Sciences and Zoology - with a weighted average mark of 80% in their prerequisite undergraduate major, are eligible to apply for the Research Training Program in Science.
This is a five-year course comprising the Master of Science and PhD.
