Break from study
Students who have commenced a university course and decide to take a break from study have a few options:
1. Apply for a 'leave of absence (LOA)' from a course
LOA enables a student who is currently enrolled to take a break from their studies and have a guaranteed place in the
course when they return from leave. Online requests for Leave of Absence can be made by local students by going to the portal,
clicking on the Admin tab and following the Apply for Leave of Absence link. International students must meet with a course
adviser in the Science Student Centre to request LOA.
2. Apply for a 'deferral' of a course
Deferral may be an option for commencing students who have not confirmed their enrolment in the course they have been offered.
3. 'Discontinue' from a course
Discontinuation will permanently cancel a student's enrolment in a course which is currently being undertaken. A student needs
to reapply and undergo competitive re-assessment to resume studies in future if the course is available.
